Conditioning

We all probably know what the word means, as relaxed babes, but do you know that the key to a soft, well defined and healthy looking kinky is the same conditioning we already know?

Yes, it is. A constant conditioned hair will save you a lot of stress and headache and will ease your hair journey.

As you would have imagined, there are different kinds, as well as methods to do this. Some of us prefer to purchase ready made products, (Some with more chemicals than others) while others prefer to create theirs. (DIYs Usually completely natural)

* DIY – Do It Yourself! (Just in case you didn’t already know)

During the process, heat is required. (you can either use artificial, or natural heat)  This is to open up the hair follicles, enabling the strands absorb the products applied to it.

In all cases, the goal really is to find out what works for you and your hair!

Okay, so what are the types of conditioning, and how do you do it?

We have:

  • CO – Wash (Conditioner – Only Washing)
  • Conditioning
  • Deep Conditioning

Co – wash is a type of conditioning that helps in cleansing your hair, instead of the normal use of shampoo. This is the most frequent type of conditioning. It would depend on your wash day routine, usually between 2 to 3 weeks. (which should be on the basis of your scalp type and daily activities) Should be between your wash days.

Conditioning takes about 2 to 5 minutes, and is done after shampooing. This is the next frequent type. Once in 2 or 3 weeks. (depending on your wash days)

Deep Conditioning takes longer time, and is depending on the heat process applied. Some do this before shampooing, but I do mine after. This is usually a once in a month type of conditioning, but some of us go the extra mile to do it more often than this. (Which is mostly because of hair damages)

*Note that most people who CO wash their hair, refuse to shampoo it, but I do. I think this is not a sufficient cleansing method for my hair.

#Stay tuned for “how”
